2009 Coaches and Counselors
Ali Carney-Knisely (Girl’s Lacrosse) is a member of the Skidmore College Women's Lacrosse Team (Class of 2012). Ali was a three-sport athlete at Rice Memorial High School, a 4 year Varsity lacrosse starter, Varsity Lacrosse Captain (2007, 2008), Vermont All-State Lacrosse First team (2007, 2008), and played on the VT High School Senior All-Star team. Ali was named US Lacrosse High School Academic All-American in 2008 and is a US Lacrosse Level 1 Certified coach.
The Ice Storm (Football) reigning 2008 Division 1 AAA USA Bowl National Champions. Inaugurated in 2001, the Vermont Ice Storm participated in the AA league for the few years that followed until 2006. In 2006 the Vermont Ice Storm achieved a long held goal; to enter into the Empire Football League and play at the “AAA” level. Proving some detractors wrong, the Storm moved up to the “AAA” level and continued its winning ways. Going 8-2 during the regular season, the Storm won a first round playoff game – for the 6th season in a row - against its cross-lake rivals from Plattsburgh. In its seven years of existence, the Ice Storm has acquired a reputation for solid, sophisticated, clean, hard football that is known far and wide. Winning over 70% of its games at the “A,” “AA,” and “AAA” levels of semi-football, going undefeated at home in six years of playoff action, going 15-0 in the regular season and playoffs in 2007, and winning the AFA National Title in 2007 as well as the Division 1 AAA USA Nation.
Kate Lipton (Field Hockey), a 2008 University of Vermont graduate, is a full-time assistant woman’s Lacrosse and Field Hockey coach at Saint Michael’s College. Lipton played Field Hockey at UVM, where she was a two-time co-captain and earned America East All-Conference and All-Academic honors. She garnered the squad's Most Improved Player award as a senior, and was named to the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad all four seasons.
Nick Mead (Boy’s and Girl’s High School Soccer, Mini-Mites Soccer, All-Sports Camp, and Toddler Soccer) is currently coming into his third season as the Varsity Boys assistant coach at Champlain Valley Union High School in Hinesburg, Vermont. Nick returned to help coach the CVU Redhawks when his brother TJ Mead took over as Head Coach. Beforehand, Nick played four years of varsity soccer for CVU under Dan Shepardson- helping his team to win four State Championships, especially as captain as a senior. Among many soccer honors, his most notable were being named to the Burlington Free Press First Team, the NVAC Division 1 First Team, and All New England. He has continued his soccer career playing center back for the Catamounts. He was selected to the America East All-Rookie First Team his freshman year during which he started 21 out of 21 games. He was also selected to the UNH Nike Classic All-Tournament Team as well as the Smith Barney Nike Classic All Tournament Team held at Centennial Field. He has been a long time player/coach at the club level in Vermont and has continued to be a part of the soccer community in our local area.
TJ Mead (Boy’s and Girl’s High School Soccer) currently the Varsity Boys head coach at Champlain Valley Union High School in Hinesburg, Vermont. Over the past two seasons he has coached the Red Hawks to a 33-1-1 record, 2 Metro Championships and 2 Division One State Championships. He has developed 10 all-state players, 3 all-New England players, 2 Gatorade Vermont player of the year, and one High school All-American. Coach Mead was also head coach at the club soccer level for 6 years, and has been actively involved with many local soccer camps. As a player Mead was named an Adidas high school All-American, High School All- New England and Vermont Gatorade player of the year. After High school he attended and played soccer for the University of Vermont Catamounts and captained the team in his senior year.
Doug Moses (Travel Team Lacrosse) began playing lacrosse at the early age of four. He was captain of the UVM Lacrosse Team for his Junior and Senior year and was the leading scorer at UVM for three years. Doug has traveled extensively throughout the country playing Lacrosse, as well as coaching at lacrosse camps in Texas and Georgia. He has worked for Peak Performance, Hobart College and UVM. Doug has coached 5th through 8th Grade Boys, U15 Boys, and U18 Men’s teams at The Field House.
Alex Slauson (Boys Lacrosse) recently finished up his final year on St. Lawrence’s Varsity Lacrosse team. During his time there, he helped win four Liberty League titles, had Four NCAA appearances, was named First Team All Liberty League player twice, and was honored with All-American Honors his senior year while he captained his team. He was also selected to play in the North v. South all-star game. Before attending St. Lawrence, Slauson spent four years on the Champlain Valley Union Varsity Lacrosse team and was honored with All-American, First Team All State, and elected to play in the VT-NH all-star game. He remains an active member of the lacrosse community and active coach in our area.
Devin Sullivan’s (Girl’s Lacrosse) lacrosse career started at the tender age of ten in Bridgewater, New Jersey. She grew up playing all the positions, including goalie, for her high school team; the Panthers who in 2007 were the number three team in New Jersey. During her high school career Devin also played for the club 2Knights Elite Team. Devin continued on to play for the University of Vermont Women’s Lacrosse Club team, where she held a position on the executive board for a year. For years Devin has been coaching at lacrosse clinics and camps, and volunteering at organizations such as Pee Wee Lacrosse. Currently, she is the coach of the Burlington Middle School Girls Lacrosse Team.
